How do we do it? 2. Committees

Yes, Another Committee!

We recommend a two-tier Prom Praise Organising Committee for each venue - the Working Committee and the Sponsoring Committee.

The Sponsoring Committee would not need to meet often or get involved in the detailed arrangements; they should be an eclectic, ecumenical gathering of local church leaders all of whom believe in the worth of Prom Praise and are prepared to ensure wide awareness and acceptance of the concert within their constituency. This could be the leaders of three to four sponsoring churches mentioned on the previous page, or alternatively a 'Churches Together in ...' organisation or similar underscoring the important message that Prom Praise is non-denominational in its aims.  Whilst not compulsory, this group can considerably enhance the effectiveness of the event in the area by giving it their blessing.

The Working Committee is the one which actually does the hard work!  We generally suggest that this group be subdivided into 4 sections, each with a Head of Department, as it were, who ensures representation of his or her particular area of responsibility in the main body and recruits volunteers to handle the tasks.

These areas are:

  • Administration (chairman, treasurer and secretary)

  • Advertising (to churches, community and local media)

  • Venue (box office, technical arrangements)

  • Hospitality (accommodation, transport, catering)

We suggest that the minimum number involved should be five – there are places where Prom Praise has been operated by an experienced Committee of two, but that is an exception!

We do recommend the next step towards bringing Prom Praise to your town.
