Join the Orchestra
With an overall membership of some 300 players (some of whom live in far reaching parts of the UK) the Orchestra typically musters between 50 and 80 players depending on the occasion.
Due to the number of players used on each occasion the Orchestra is able to include a range of abilities and ages from the gifted amateur, through students, to those making a living as musicians (or at least trying to!). With so much activity, there never seem to be too many people on the books and new members are always welcome - particularly those of the 'endangered species'. Commitment can vary a lot - for example if you play the violin and are keen to play regularly you could have plenty of opportunity to do so; other instruments need to rotate a bit so may not be able to play as often.
For the concerts, rehearsals are intense and fast-moving, so for these occasions a reasonably high standard of sight-reading and technique is advisable. We try to book the right players for the right occasion - we try not to throw anyone in the deep end if they can't cope. Above all things, the main qualification for being a member of the All Souls Orchestra is a willingness to use your gifts in the Lord's service through this unique ministry.
If you would like to consider joining us please contact the Langham Arts Office.
But there are others ways to help if you don't play... (continued)
